“Lethbridge only wet city in the province”
The July 22, 1915, headline says it all -- Lethbridge was the only city in Alberta that voted against prohibition. Regardless of the wishes of Lethbridge, the province of Alberta went dry in 1916.
The Lethbridge prohibition vote was close, though, and there were many people across southern Alberta who actively supported prohibition.
Discover what happened during the prohibition years of 1916 to 1924 in the newest Lethbridge Historical Society publication:
Squirrel Whiskey, Mr. R and Prohibition in Southern Alberta – by Belinda Crowson.
