Enclosing Fritz Sick Pool

Fritz Sick Pool was built in the 1940s as an outdoor pool.

In November 1965 work started on enclosing the pool. Arias (Spanish) Construction Ltd. was contracted for the construction at a projected cost of $134,929. Completion was planned for March 1966, creating the city’s first public all weather pool.

There was a short delay in the opening of the pool when a leak was discovered in early April 1966. The leak was quickly fixed and on April 20 the pool was opened for public tours. The following day, on April 21, the senior class from Dorothy Gooder School were the first school children to use the enclosed facility.

Their visit to the pool was part of city public school children in Grades 4 to 6 enjoying 50-minutes swimming classes as part of Phys. Ed. Classes.
